MOSQUITO by João Nuno Pinto had its world premiere

MOSQUITO by João Nuno Pinto had its world premiere last night, inaugurating this year's IFFR - International Film Festival Rotterdam. For the first time, a portuguese film was selected as the opening film of an international class A festival, and it also integrates the Big Screen Competition section, with a record of sold out screening sessions.

The inaugural screening, which obtained a wave of public applause, also triggered positive reactions from the international press. Among the highlights are statements such as «Zacarias’ beliefs are tested from the start – a fact which is beautifully evoked by cinematography which woozes in and out of focus, making sharpness and clarity elusive within the frame. Likewise, the swampy shadows of an unquiet night obscure everything but the silhouettes of figures, making them unreadable and uncertain.« (Screen Daily).

An original idea by the director, João Nuno Pinto, freely adapted from true facts and based on the story of his own grandfather, which comes to life through the words of screenwriter Fernanda Polacow and Gonçalo Waddington, MOSQUITO arrives on the big screen on March 5th.

A Leopardo Filmes production, in co-production with Alfama Films (France), APM Produções (Portugal), Delicatessen Films (Brazil) and Mapiko Filmes (Mozambique), which also has its premiere in the French theaters on March 25th.
