Teve lugar há pouca horas, em Tóquio, na Universidade de Tsukuba, a 36ª cerimónia de entrega dos World Cultural Council Awards, onde Paulo Branco recebeu o Prémio Mundial das Artes Leonardo da Vinci, com que foi distinguido.

Descrevendo o prémio como «(…) an acknowledgment to those who lift our existence to a higher level by the beauty or inspiration of their creative talent.», a organização refere que a atribuição deste prémio ao produtor português «(...) is given for Mr. Branco’s engagement with new views on cinematographic expressions and his dedicated commitment to cultivating intensive communication and activity between the different fields of culture, such as literature, fine arts and music.»

Na conferência que proferiu, Paulo Branco referiu que a produção de filmes pode ser um processo criativo.
