Asako I & II premieres October 17th
Asako I & II premieres October 17th. The superlative film of the great Japanese filmmaker Ryûsuke Hamaguchi was part of the Official Selection in Competition of the Cannes Film Festival in 2018 and the Official Selection in Competition of the LEFFEST - Lisbon & Sintra Film Festival of the same year.
In 2015 Hamaguchi had already surprised the audience with Happy Hour, which had a huge critical repercussion, notably the French newspaper Le Monde, who considered the film a masterpiece, rating it with five stars.
In Asako I & II we see how Asako, a coherent and sensitive character, deals with the confrontation between the unexpected versus the everysday routine, materialized by Baku and Ryohei's characters, respectively, in a unique love story. Two moments, two parts; two years separate two places, two loves, two lives.
The argument is based on Netemo Sametemo, a novel by Japanese writer Tomoka Shibasaki, and was written by Sachiko Tanaka and Ryûsuke Hamaguchi. It has been awarded by the International Cinephile Society Awards for the ICS Cannes Award for Best Screenplay.
