Premiere | FALLEN ANGELS by Wong Kar Wai

Pieces of Wong Kar Wai's World continue to illuminate the big screen. This week comes FALLEN ANGELS in a digitally restored copy in 4K.

Against the backdrop of a modern urban nightscape, Wong Chi Ming leads the life of a discouraged hitman looking to get out of the mucky business. Between an ambiguous relationship with his professional partner and an encounter with a prostitute, his life becomes intersected with the stories of other characters roaming the streets of Hong Kong. Through eccentric vignettes and pop culture references, Fallen Angels vibrantly shows the alienated condition of subjects inserted in a distorted and fast-tracking city life.

«In the universe of Wong Kar-Wai, these characters should not be considered just melodrama type characters. On the contrary, they are characters whose melodramatic uniqueness is intimately linked to the thematic and theoretical obsessions of the filmmaker, namely memory, experience, disincidence and asynchrony. Somehow, all of Wong Kar-Wai's films deal with these problems under different configurations.» José Bértolo, À Pala de Walsh
