The World of Wong Kar Wai - in restored digital copies

This will certainly be the great cinematic event of the end of 2020: THE WORLD OF WONG KAR WAI, in 5 copies restored in 4K by the director himself, of one of the most original works of contemporary cinema, in the year that his most iconic film, IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE celebrates 20 years.

It was in Cannes that it debuted and was awarded, it would be in Cannes that this copy would have its world premiere. But this year, and because of the pandemic, there was no Cannes. In this retrospective, these 5 films now gathered would begin to tour the world at the LEFFEST - Lisbon & Sintra Film Festival and will now reach the Portuguese theaters (Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, Braga, Setúbal, Figueira da Foz and others) on December 3rd, with distribution by Leopardo Filmes.

A feast for the eyes, a feast for the senses, let's see these films again in all their splendor.

Starting precisely with IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE (2000), a love story between neighbors who find themselves betrayed, immediately elevated to the category of masterpiece, and which has not lost (on the contrary) a millimeter of its brilliance over the years; continuing with CHUNGKING EXPRESS (1994), Wong Kar Wai's first major international success (and that meant for 90s moviegoers what Godard meant for those in the 60s); FALLEN ANGELS (1995), "eco film" from the previous one, as Vasco Câmara called him (Público, 13 Nov, 2020), and which was originally thought of as a possible third CHUNGKING EXPRESS story; HAPPY TOGETHER (1997), Prize for Best Achievement in Cannes, the story of two lovers who leave for Buenos Aires and try to reconstruct their agitated relationship there; and, closing the cycle, closing the circle, 2046 (2004), sequel (or "shadow movie" - VC, ib.) of IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE (it was the number of the hotel room where the lovers met), with Chow (Tony Leung) trying to recover from Su Li's abandonment, looking for her in the women he meets and now he is abandoning ... (there is still a science fiction novel that Chow writes and the reference to the year that Chinese authorities set it as the last of Hong Kong's governmental autonomy after the territory was returned to China in 1997).
