THE WORST MAN IN LONDON, By Rodrigo Areias, selected for Rotterdam Film Festival

Leopardo Filmes is pleased to announce that The Worst Man in London, the latest feature by Rodrigo Areias, has been selected for the IFFR – Rotterdam International Film Festival (January 25th to February 4, 2024), as part of the Big Screen Competition.

Inspired by historical characters, The Worst Man in London is a remarkable portrait of the world of the Pre-Raphaelites in Victorian England. Great artists, such as Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Algernon Charles Swinburne and Elizabeth Siddal, who lived and created their art in an atmosphere of freedom, vice and amorality, and the famous critic John Ruskin... Among them, the intriguing Charles Augustus Howell, whom the writer Arthur Conan Doyle called the worst man in London.

According to the director of IFFR, Vanja Kaludjercic, “Areias crafts a nuanced portrait avoiding moral judgements and transforms the biopic into a passionate journey through history drawing intriguing parallels to our present day.”. Produced by Paulo Branco and written by Eduardo Brito, the film stars Albano Jerónimo, Edward Ashley, Victoria Guerra, Scott Coffey, Christian Vadim, Carmen Chaplin, Simon Paisley Day, and Jean-François Balmer. It will open in Portugal on February 8th, 2024.
